Dear students, dear colleagues,

we have received many legitimate requests for clarification regarding the teaching of courses for the next semester, which will begin on Monday, February 22.

To this end, we have scheduled a Course Council meeting on Wednesday 17 February at 3:00 p.m. in which the teaching staff and student representatives will meet to evaluate and approve a more stable program solution (I would have liked to say definitive, but unfortunately - in this situation - nothing is definitive).

At the moment I can confirm the following:

The Polytechnic School has circulated a questionnaire to the students of the different Study Courses to test their liking to return to face-to-face teaching. In the case of Event Product Design, only 39 students responded (out of 146 enrolled, including those who were not in the course). For this reason, compared to the apparent percentages, which show 59% willingness to resume face-to-face teaching, the value should be resized for the low general participation (even if the question seems misleading, since - with heart - we all wish we could resume teaching in presence).

Having said that, the following rules have been approved:

As we know, the second semester will start on Monday, February 22, but NO IN-PERSENSE ACTIVITIES CAN TAKE PLACE BEFORE MARCH 1.

In any case, even the activities planned in presence will be subject to higher order conditions that may arise (color of the region, the province, DPCM or other, which may vary from week to week depending on health conditions).

The Department is working on logistical solutions to facilitate safe access to classrooms.

To this end, it would be decided to carry out in presence ONLY the activities STRICTLY indicated to the success of the training but NOT the ordinary activity of the lessons.

In practice, subject to the constraints of the ordinances to be respected, the activities of reception students can be carried out in presence, by appointment and according to a schedule, such as - for example - revisions for thesis.

Solutions can also be devised to encourage visits to the area (always in compliance with the regulations in force at the time of the scheduled activity).

Access to the premises of the department will take place exclusively through the main concierge passing through a thermo-scanner with the ability to read and approve the correct positioning of the mask on the face and accreditation in entry and exit via App and QR code.

The activities will be scheduled in the morning or afternoon, avoiding the presence at the turn of the two times to allow the sanitation of spaces.

Meals will not be taken in the spaces of the department, nor will socializing be allowed in the corridors, the central patio or other common areas.

The didactics that the teachers will carry out in presence will not be exhaustive of the performance of the institutional tasks for which it will be required the delivery of their teachings also through the platform of distance connection or, in exceptional cases, by means of the tools that the university and the department are providing to equip the classrooms for this purpose.

In essence, given the conditions of extreme variability of the spread of COVID-SARS 19 in the further variants that are spreading, with no little bitterness, in the Council of Studies, I will be oriented to evaluate very cautiously the decisions to be taken.

For those students who reside outside the region my reassurance as of now is that they will still be followed with all our attention even remotely. For this reason the decision to arrange a transfer to the territory at the moment will not be considered essential for the success of their training.

Speaking for myself, I think that social security should come before everything else in the order of priorities for overcoming this situation.

We have shown over the past two semesters that despite the difficulties associated with the continuing lock-down we have been able to achieve very good results in university preparation, even at a distance.

We must also learn to be resilient and not give the contagion any chance to overwhelm our legitimate aspiration for a better future. This is an invisible and tenacious enemy.

For this reason, we will have to try to "grit our teeth" again for this spring semester so that we can hopefully get back to normal with the next Academic Year.

More detailed updates will be released in the coming days, after the Course Council.

Ad Maiora!
