Lea Ypi (Tirana, 1979), an expert on Marxism and critical theory, is Professor of Political Theory at the London School of Economics. She has done research and taught at Sapienza University in Rome, Sciences Po, Frankfurt University, Wissenschaftszentrum in Berlin, and the Italian Institute for Historical Studies in Naples. Among his books: Global Justice and Avant-Garde Political Agency (Oxford University Press, 2012), The Meaning of Partisanship (with J. White, Oxford University Press, 2016), State and Cosmopolitan Avant-Garde (transl. it. Laterza, 2016).


In the book, Lea Ypi tells her story in the twilight of the twentieth century. A story of family secrets, revolution, war and political awakening in the Balkans, in a regime suspended between the end of communism and the struggle to enter the West.
