The Ministry of Economic Development has issued a call for proposals for the selection of research and experimentation projects to be eligible for funding under the 5G Emerging Technology Support Programme.
The Programme provides for a total budget of EUR 5 million.
The objective is to carry out projects of experimentation, applied research and technology transfer, based on the use of emerging technologies, such as Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), grafted onto 5G infrastructures, carried out by public administrations (including at least one university) in collaboration with operators with frequencies usable for 5G.

Call and projects
Projects should develop services and solutions in the following areas
- creativity, audiovisual and entertainment
- logistics
- green economy
- protection and enhancement of Made in Italy.
Funding may be granted up to a maximum of 80% of the recognised eligible expenditure, and in any case up to a maximum of EUR 1 million per project. The project must have a budget of not less than 500,000 euros.
Eligible costs relate to staff of the lead applicant, depreciation of tools and equipment, consultancy services (including patents), materials, overheads (up to 15% of personnel costs). Expenditure must be incurred as soon as the agreement between MiSE and the applicant has been signed.
The project must have a duration of not less than 12 months and not more than 24 months.
Applications to participate in the selection must be submitted to the Ministry by 12:00 on November 4, 2019 by PEC. If the Application Form is so large that it is not possible to send the complete package of all attachments by PEC, it may be delivered by hand to Division II of the DGSCERP of the Ministry of Economic Development, Viale America 201, 00144 Rome.
