"Fundamentals of LIS: workshop on approaching Italian Sign Language" (2 CFU) - second semester
Introduced in the wake of the recent recognition of the Italian Sign Language (LIS) by the Italian state, the workshop aims to bring those who will participate closer to the world of LIS; a world in which communication passes through a channel very different from the one we usually associate with (spoken) languages: the visual-gestural channel.
The workshop will be divided into 6 hours of theoretical lectures and 12 hours of practical exercises (the detailed schedule is attached at the bottom of the page): within the theoretical lectures we will focus on some aspects related to, among other things, the history of LIS and the culture of the deaf, while during the hours dedicated to practical exercises the focus will be put in particular on the management of the "sign space"-an element of first importance for the correct learning of LIS-, on expressiveness and, of course, on some lexical and syntactic aspects of the language.
The lectures, which will include the participation of high-profile guests (deaf and non-deaf), will be partly interspersed with break weeks in which exercises will be assigned to be carried out independently aimed at the elaboration and acquisition of the most relevant mechanisms of LIS. The final test will consist of the preparation of a video in LIS on a topic of daily life agreed with the lecturer. Attendance in the course and the final exam will allow the acquisition of 2 CFUs.
The course has a limited number of registrants and it is necessary to register by filling out the form below (PLEASE REGISTER ONLY IF REALLY INTERESTED IN ATTENDING THE COURSE SO AS NOT TO TAKE AWAY PLACES FROM OTHERS):
