Richard M. Stallman is a political, theoretical and practical activist of free software, and one of the parents of the GNU/Linux operating system used by many of us.
Stallman has received numerous awards (ACM Grace Hopper Award, ACM Software and Systems Award, Electronic Frontier Foundation's Pioneer Award, Takeda Award for Social/Economic Betterment) and several honorary doctorate degrees, as well as being mentioned in the Internet Hall of Fame for his outstanding contribution to the development of the Internet.
