SmartPants is a technological sock that allows the constant measurement of the movements of patients with neurological problems during rehabilitation therapy.
The project, developed by Dr. Mehrnarz Hamedami during her PhD in UniGe, was born in collaboration with Professors Angelo Schenone and Fabio Lavagetto, professors belonging respectively to the Department of Neuroscience, Rehabilitation, Ophthalmology, Genetics and Maternal and Child Sciences and the Department of Naval, Electrical, Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering.
During the emergency period due to Covid-19, this system proved useful and effective, as it was first used on a SARS-Cov-2 positive patient with Charcot-Marie-Tooth neuropathy.
Tele-rehabilitation, carried out twice a week in one-hour sessions, has produced significantly positive effects, also thanks to the control of data collected during therapy.
