Launched in the wake of the Italian State’s recognition of Italian Sign Language (LIS) and Tactile LIS (LISt), this course aims to introduce participants to the world of LIS and LISt; a world in which communication takes place through a channel different from the one we usually associate with (spoken) languages: the visual/tactile-gestural channel.
The course will be spread over two semesters (1st semester: basic level; 2nd semester: intermediate level), lasting 40 hours in total, which will entitle students to 6 CFU* as ‘Other Activities’. However, it is not necessary to attend lectures in both semesters: for 3 CFU*, it is possible to attend only the first-semester lectures (20 hours). Similarly, those who have already successfully completed the basic level as part of one of the previous courses, or who are able to demonstrate that they possess the necessary prior knowledge, may attend only the second-semester lectures for the same number of hours and CFU* (it is in this part of the course that you will become familiar with the world of deafblindness and, consequently, with LISt and haptic, partly through the participation of deafblind guest speakers in the lectures).
The lectures will be delivered alternately by two lecturers and will ideally take place according to the following timetable: Tuesday 14:00–16:00 (Lecture Theatre D, DLCM Teaching Centre) and Thursday 14:00–15:00 (Lecture Theatre C, DLCM Teaching Centre). The final timetable, with all relevant details, will be announced shortly before the start of lectures (scheduled for around mid-October). Active participation in the course is strongly recommended; failure to do so may result in exclusion from the final examination (one per semester).
There are 40 places available for each semester. To enrol, click here (please note: only enrolments from the DLCM, DAFIST and DIRAAS will be accepted; please complete the enrolment form carefully, following the examples provided). As soon as the maximum number of enrolments has been reached, confirmation emails will be sent (to the University email address provided on the enrolment form; please check this regularly to ensure all necessary procedures are completed smoothly) and, at that time, the final details will be announced (start date of lectures, lecture timetable with details of individual lecturers, etc.). Given the high number of enrolments we usually receive and some previous unpleasant experiences, we reserve the right to verify whether those who have enrolled are actually able to attend the course.
If you have any queries regarding the completion of study plans, please contact the relevant administrative office directly.
* The course is open to students from the DLCM, DAFIST and DIRAAS programmes, but the 3 CFU (for each individual module; 6 CFU in total) will be recognised exclusively for the DLCM degree programmes. As for DAFIST and DIRAAS, the various degree programmes will announce the number of CFU recognised in the coming days (these may vary, as in previous years, from 2 to 0, though this does not preclude participation in the course); as soon as this information is available, we will ensure it is communicated to those concerned.
