CENTRA - Center for the History of Racism and Anti-Racism in Modern Italy, a research center of the University of Genoa, has been invited by the UNAR Office of the Presidency of the Council to collaborate in the drafting of the National Plan of Action against Racism, Xenophobia and Intolerance.
This is a prestigious recognition of the quality of research carried out by CENTRA, coordinated by Francesco Cassata, currently on secondment to the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei - Centro linceo interdisciplinare "B. Segre," and Guri Schwarz.
CENTRA
The Center brings together historians from various Italian and foreign universities and research institutions (mainly French, U.S. and British) with different methodological approaches and thematic perspectives, ranging from political to cultural history, from history of science to visual cultural studies and art history, from social history to legal history.
The research projects and forums curated by CENTRA, through the tools of critical historiographical analysis, aim to investigate national and transnational issues concerning the role of racisms - including anti-Semitism, colonial racism, anti-Gypsyism and Islamophobia - in Italian history (19th-20th centuries).
UNAR National Anti-Racial Discrimination Office.
Established in 2003 (Legislative Decree No. 215/2003) following an EU directive (No. 2000/43/EC), UNAR is the office designated by the Italian state to guarantee the right to equal treatment of all persons, regardless of ethnic or racial origin, age, religious belief, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability.
In particular, it monitors causes and phenomena related to all types of discrimination, studies possible solutions, and promotes a culture of respect for human rights and equal opportunities.
