On 25 and 26 October 2024 in Thessaloniki (Greece), the kick-off meeting was held between the 21 partners of the LIFE project -PROMETHEUS (PROMoting Elasmobranchs conservation THrough by-catch reduction, Ecotourism and alternative sUStainable fisheries) coordinated by Emanuela Fanelli, professor at the Università Politecnica delle Marche.
For the next five years, the University of Genoa, with the Department of Earth, Environmental and Life Sciences - DISTAV, will be in charge of activities in GSA 9 (Ligurian Sea) aimed at reducing by-catch of cartilaginous fish (sharks and rays) in swordfish fisheries through the direct involvement of local professional fishermen.
