With regard to the terrible international situation, the University of Genoa shares and reports the message of the Network of Universities for Peace, of which it is a member.


The Network of Universities for Peace, deeply concerned by what is happening in Ukraine, animated by the conviction that attention to the construction and consolidation of peace by peaceful means is a constitutive vocation of the Academy, certain that strong and immediate diplomatic action, carried out in good faith by all parties, is the only way to address the complexity of the ongoing conflict,


joins in the appeal of the Secretary General of the United Nations of 23 February on the respect of the principles of the United Nations Charter, on the need to establish a ceasefire and to undertake the path of dialogue and negotiation


firmlyreaffirms the importance of peace and dialogue as irreplaceable values for coexistence among peoples and condemns all acts of violence and abuse of human rights and fundamental freedoms,


expresses genuine solidarity for the people involved and particular closeness to the entire academic community in Ukraine,


following the course of events,evaluates the possibility of taking action to encourage concrete actions for the benefit and support of colleagues and students, victims of the situation, including the return to Italy of students present in the areas of conflict.


In addition, we remind you that UniGe is part of the international network Scholars at Risk (first useful link) and of its Italian section (SAR ITALIA, second useful link), which is currently working to collect requests for hosting scholars from countries involved in the war in Ukraine and to promote hosting initiatives (visiting positions, scholarships, contracts, etc.) adopted by universities both in Italy and in other European countries.
