They are called 'passion fruits' but are not found on the fruit and vegetable counter and with the exotic fruit they only share the shape and certainly not the size. In fact, they are nanometric glass capsules  (a millionth of a millimetre long!) containing even smaller gold seeds.
The team of Valerio Voliani, a researcher at the University of Genoa and the Italian Institute of Technology, has demonstrated their efficacy in preclinical studies as an adjunct to radiotherapy for HPV-positive head and neck cancers.
