Sustainability and digitalisation

Natalia Reen, Senior Researcher at Åbo Akademi University (Finland), spent three months at the La Spezia Campus as a visiting researcher thanks to exchange projects between Åbo Akademi and the University of Genoa. The exchange coordinators were Gianmarco Vergassola and Cesare Rizzo, professors of shipbuilding at the Department of Naval, Electrical, Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering (DITEN) of the Polytechnic School.

Natalia Reen is involved in the European LeaderSHIP project, in which UniGe is the leader of WP3, which defines the emerging and essential skills needed to improve the training of European shipbuilding workers.

During her visit, Reen collaborated on the development of several curricula and taught two courses: one, in person and reserved for PhD students at the Centro del Mare, on methodologies to be adopted for the green transition (‘Methodology for green transition in maritime industry’) and one, online, on IoT applications in shipyards. He also had the opportunity to visit the University of Genoa's Testing Facility, a state-of-the-art facility inaugurated in 2018 thanks to the European H2020 ROBINS project (which we discussed in the university magazine), and wrote an article entitled “Living Labs at Sea: Robotics, Regulation, and the Future of Maritime Inspection” on the blog of the research group he belongs to, virtualseatrial.
